costly mill parkRockdale County adds 77 acres of picturesque parkland with the purchase of Costley Mill Park, 2455 Costley Mill Road. The Board of Commissioners unanimously adopted a resolution at its June 27 meeting authorizing the execution of the financial documents. The county closed on the property on June 30.

“Costley Mill is part of a plan to enhance recreation, leisure and tourism in Rockdale County,” said Chairman Oz Nesbitt, Sr. “It will bring people into the community for concerts, festivals and other events that will boost our economic development efforts.”

The Parks and Recreation division will take the rest of the year to make Costley Mill fully operational as a county park.

“We’re excited to have this beautiful property,” said Recreation and Maintenance Director Sue Sanders. “In recent surveys, citizens identified a park in the northern end of the county as a need so we are extremely pleased with this addition to our Parks & Recreation offerings.”

Costley Mill Park is known for TV and movie productions, weddings, receptions, company events, church functions, family reunions, and private photo shoots. The county will continue to allow filming and photo shoots while making improvements to the park.

Rockdale County will hold its employee picnic at Costley Mill Park in September.

The county will also have a public open house in October where citizens can see the property as it is now.  The official grand opening will be in the spring of 2018.

Costley Mill Park is in the northern portion of Rockdale County off Highway 138.
