ABT-Kimberley Chance Atkins-0817-Half PageOn August 12th and 13th, the Kimberly Chance Atkins Foundation (KCAF) will return to the Rockdale Tennis Center for its 12th annual tennis tournament. The KCAF has hosted this event for over a decade to raise money for breast cancer awareness. The two-day tournament will consist of teams of doubles battling it out on the tennis court with hopes of winning awards given to the two top men’s and women’s teams.

Since the organization’s creation over a decade ago, the KCAF has provided over 600 mammograms for women in Newton and Rockdale County as well as surrounding areas. Estimates show that 90% of breast cancer is detected from mammograms and early detection can save lives. The KCAF also uses the money raised to provide eight $2,000 scholarships to high school seniors in Newton and Rockdale County who are planning to pursue a healthcare degree in college.

Kimberly Chance Atkins was a teacher at Memorial Middle School who battled with breast cancer for many years. She was known to be kind, caring, generous, and willing to go out of her own way to help students thrive in school and in the community. Her husband created the Kimberly Chance Atkins Foundation to continue the legacy of Kimberly Atkins and to advocate for breast cancer awareness and prevention.

One of the primary goals of the KCAF is to promote awareness of breast cancer so that early detection and intervention can be provided. The foundation has been able to do this through the generous contributions from people throughout the community.

The annual tennis tournament has been recognized as 2007, 2010, 2016 USTA Charity Event of the Year. It is coming back to Conyers in 2017 where it will be held at the Rockdale Tennis Center at 1370 Parker Road, Southeast Conyers, GA 30094.

Registration ends August 2nd. At the event, there will be a Yeti cooler filled with alcohol raffled off for $10 a ticket. You can also buy raffle tickets online. For more information, visit www.kimatkins.net.
